Las Vegas has been a prominent vacation destination for many across the world. With casinos, luxury hotels, and an eclectic vibe, Vegas is full of entertainment, fun, and leisure. Tourism in Vegas has increased substantially in recent years compared to the previous few years. Statistics show that Harry Reid International Airport had an annual footfall of 51 million passengers in 2019. In 2023, 57.6 million passengers passed through the airport, breaking all its previous records. It ranks as the number one airport for its airport growth capacity globally.
Earlier, restrictions were imposed on air and land travel due to the pandemic. All airlines and airports were operating with a limited capacity. Today, when the situation is under control, Las Vegas has seen an upsurge in tourist numbers. Airlines have now started to operate at full capacity at almost every global destination. Even the Harry Reid International Airport has experienced a 23% increase in capacity. Recently, ten airlines have been introduced to cover 16 new routes, adding around 69800 seat capacities annually for passengers. 103,000 long-haul seats are also available every year for travelers. By the year's end, it will reach a milestone of operating at 104% of its pre-pandemic international travel capacity.
There are further plans to uplift tourism in Vegas after being hit by the pandemic. Events and conventions, such as the Consumer Electronics Show, are scheduled. Special charter flights are also introduced to and for places like Tokyo and Paris for the delegates. Discussing the long-term plans, the construction of Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport (SNSA) will be initiated by 2029 and is expected to be completed by 2035. This airport will open up new routes, provide better connectivity, and will have the capacity to hold some of the largest and heaviest aircraft in the world.
